Mussie Hailu
Ambassador Mussie Hailu a founding member of United Religions Initiative (URI). Currently, he serves as Regional Director of URI for Africa and URI Representative at the African Union and United Nations Office in Africa.
He is known for his work at national, regional, and international levels in promoting peace, reconciliation, interfaith & intercultural harmony, disarmament, the Golden Rule, the spirit of Ubuntu, preservation of the environment, human dignity, and international cooperation for the common good of all. He considers himself a Citizen of the World, believing strongly in the inter-dependence of human beings. He initiated the Golden Rule Day which is celebrated now in different part of the world to foster human dignity, interfaith harmony, freedom of religion or belief, compassion, to counter violent extremism, hate speech and promote peaceful co-existences and to uphold the universal declaration of human right.
His initiative includes a “Declaration for Peace” which is distributed worldwide during the 50th anniversary of the United Nations. This declaration was intended to encourage people to make a personal commitment to stand for global peace, human dignity, environmental protection and International cooperation for the good of all nations
He has served with national, regional and international organizations including as adviser of the African Union Economic, Social and Cultural Council on the issue of interfaith and cultural affair. He also served as Diplomat in the rank of Ambassador and Special Envoy.
